Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA)

What is FMLA?

The Family Medical Leave Act of 1993 is a federal law that entitles employees to job protected unpaid leave from work of up to 12 weeks in any 12 month period for the following reasons:

  • The care of a child after birth or adoption or placement of a child
  • The serious health condition of the employee
  • The serious health condition of a child, spouse, domestic partner, or parent
